{Love Music} Taylor Swift

Friday, May 17, 2013

One of the greatest things about living in the city is how convenient things are and if something comes up, like let's say, Taylor Swift playing at the Verizon Center, I can choose to go on a whim.  Now typically, I'm a concert ticket stalker.  The moment any pre-sale hits I'm at my computer buying tickets.  However, both my girlfriends that I could've gone with just happened to be vacationing (different places) without me! Hmmm. So I never got tickets.

Fast forward to this past Saturday when T. Swift comes rolling into town with her 15+ tractor trailers (mind you, with her face on them) causing all sorts of havoc in my 'hood.  So I sort of got the bug and wanted to go but I already had plans for Saturday night.  Luckily she was playing two nights in DC so on Sunday I asked B if he would go with lil' ol' me and he of course said yes.  I decided I would wait until about an hour before the show to see what kind of tickets I could score and the concert gods were looking out because an hour later we were in our seats and she was taking the stage. Holla!

It's definitely fun to see big production shows like this.  It's the complete opposite of the typical shows I go to in grungy clubs with some strobe lights.  It's the 2nd time I've seen her and she doesn't disappoint.  That girl is talented.  She started at the main stage then had her dancers carry her through the crowd to the back stage where she performed a few songs.  Then she got onto this platform that rotated and carried her back to the main stage.

For almost every song she had a different outfit and stage theme.  There was so much going on.  I can't imagine what it takes to put on a show like this.  She played all her normal hits and of course songs from her Red album since it was the Red Tour.  She sang a doo-wop version of You Belong To Me, which was a nice change and even B commented that he liked that.

Happy Friday! I hope you have a great weekend and thanks so much for reading!

{Wardrobe Essential: For Her} The Dark Jean

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

I remember the days when jeans came in one cut with various washes. That’s not the case anymore. Nowadays, the quest for a pair of jeans can send any gal into a tizzy of frustration and exhaustion looking for the ‘perfect’ pair. From bootcut, skinny, straight-leg, jegging, boyfriend to low rise, high-waisted, rolled, flare, distressed, the possibilities seem endless and down-right confusing. While denim styles will come and go, no wardrobe is complete without a good basic pair of dark jeans.

No matter your style preference, dark jeans are flattering, timeless, and versatile. You can dress them up for a night out or keep it casual for the day. They are there to save those ‘WTF Am I Going To Wear?' moments. You want them to make you feel good, look good, and be comfortable. Luckily with the amount of denim on the market you shouldn’t have a problem finding the perfect pair so long as you’re willing to try on TONS of jeans. No, seriously, TONS. That’s what it takes but once you find them, the denim angels will sing gloriously from the sky. My trials and tribulations of denim hunting led me to my first true denim love: 7 for All Mankind. I fell fast and I fell hard right into Paige Denim, Gap 1969 Jeans and my newest love, Rag and Bone.

My closet consists mostly of bootcut and skinny jeans. I’m partial to the skinnies because they show off the shoes and are easy to wear. I don’t need to hem them as I can just cuff them to adjust their length for my shoe of choice – ankle boots, summer sandals, flats, wedges, sky-high heels, chucks or tucked into knee high boots, they work. My bootcuts are all hemmed to wear with heels so they don’t get as much love as they should especially in the summer months but they will always remain a staple in my closet.

With that said, I bring both the bootcut and skinny picks for this months Wardrobe Essential:
